Pressing Matter Winter School 13-24 January 2025
From Monday the 13th of January to Friday the 24th of January 2025, we had the great pleasure to welcome the Pressing Matter Winter School participants to the Netherlands. The Pressing Matter Winter School on restitution research and practices were open to Indigenous early career professionals working in museums, art institutions, or universities in countries outside of Europe. Its aim is twofold: to have Indigenous people help shape the future of restitution and to facilitate the building of global networks of Indigenous scholars, curators and community practitioners around questions of restitution. The Winter School took place at the Wereldmuseum and other relevant sites in the Netherlands for two weeks. The 11 participants from different continents had access to the multiple (museum) collections of partners in the Pressing Matter consortium. The program consisted of sessions on key concepts within restitution work, collection visits, lectures by specialists in the field, and research on specific objects. The Winter School is discussion-oriented and encourages active involvement from all participants.
